La notion classique de providence divine (conduite du monde par un Dieu bienveillant) soulève plusieurs objections : la présence du mal, la liberté de l’homme, la conception d’un agir divin. À la différence de la perspective stoïcienne qui mettait l’accent sur l’ordre du monde, la tradition chrétienne valorise une liberté qui ouvre une histoire. La poursuite de cette histoire fait appel à une pluralité d’instances.

Rethinking Providence

The classical notion of divine providence (the world governed by a benevolent God) raises several objections: the presence of evil, human liberty, conception of divine agency. In contrast to the Stoics’ perspective emphasizing the order of the world, Christian tradition highlights a freedom that enables a history. Pursuing this calls upon a plurality of points of reference.
