Le concept de nature à l’articulation des savoirs

Le projet de traiter de la nature en lien avec la culture moderne constitue un véritable défi aujourd’hui. Il sera ici conduit en se souvenant d’une parole de Jacques Maritain relevant que toute métaphysique vieillit à raison de la physique qui la sous-tend. Pour cette raison, la première partie sera consacrée à ce que l’on appelle traditionnellement « philosophie de la nature » pour dégager une notion confirmée par l’approche scientifique ; la deuxième traitera de l’image de la nature qui en résulte et la troisième s’attachera à ce qui est spécifiquement humain. Cette étude, cherchant à articuler les divers aspects du savoir humain, espère ainsi pouvoir apporter des éléments à la réflexion théologique.

The concept of nature at the articulation point of various types of knowledge

The perspective of dealing with nature in relation with modern culture poses a real challenge today. This will be examined starting on the basis of Jacques Maritain’s remark that all metaphysics ages in relation to the physics that underlies it. For this reason, the first section will be devoted to what is traditionally termed the “philosophy of nature” in order to bring out a notion of it that is confirmed by a scientific approach. The second part will address the image of nature that results from this and the third will take up the question of what is specifically human. Thus articulating the various aspects of human knowledge, this study will aim at contributing some elements to theological reflection.
