L’intérêt théologique de la quête du Jésus historique

Partant du constat que le Jésus historique ne soulève pas un intérêt également partagé chez les théologiens, l’article de Chr. Duquoc propose d’ouvrir un chemin de corrélation féconde entre l’élaboration théologique et la dynamique houleuse de la recherche d’une figure de Jésus qui ne soit pas délimitée par la seule évidence des textes canoniques et de leurs interprétations officielles ou autorisées. Ainsi, après avoir exposé l’enjeu de l’exégèse historico-critique, lucide sur les excès notamment du rationalisme, notant au passage les différences entre catholiques et protestants et l’importance des ouvrages de Schweitzer et Bultmann, Chr. Duquoc conclut sur un bilan des recherches exégétiques qui est loin d’être négligeable pour le théologien, faisant sien le jugement de D. Marguerat : « L’historien ne sape pas la foi ; il en trace les contours ».

Theology’s interest in the quest for the historical Jesus

Beginning with the observation that interest in the historical Jesus is not shared equally by theologians, the article of Chr. Duquoc proposes to open a way of fertile correlation between a theological elaboration and a noisy dynamic as regards the research of the image of Jesus. This is not limited by the unique evidence of canonical texts and their official or authorized interpretations. After discussing the issues of historical-critical exegesis, being lucid about the excesses especially of rationalism, and noting in passing the differences between Catholics and Protestants and the importance of the works of Schweitzer and Bultmann, Chr. Duquoc concludes with a summary of exegetical research that is far from being negligible for the theologian. He agrees with the judgment of D. Marguerat : « The historian does not undermine faith ; he traces its contours ».
